Welcome

5/5/18 This page will be changed to People with special needs. Which will include people with disabilities and seniors. And the unemployed and those with housing difficulties.

Youngish Seniors Working Elders     Urban Pioneers

Initially about 100-150 “Youngish Seniors” (age 55-75 plus)  per project.

(A minimum of 300 project-communities are needed in the US)

  • These are people that have 30-50 years of working experience. (3,000-7,500 combined years of experience per project) These people are some of the most educated and skilled people on the planet.
  • These youngish seniors are from a segment of elders and leaders in our country that need to be reengaged, (the youth in our culture need more guidance - this topic is discussed later)
  • These elders understand and embody the “Code of Professional Ethics”
  • They have a sense of duty and loving service to family and community
  • This receptive population needs and wants to go back to work. (This human need and its effect on the psyche is described in more detail on another page.)
  • These elders know success and failure as a process of life, they know how to overcome difficulties.
  • Some are already great leaders and understand capacity building.
  • They will all be residents within the Burgeoning Community. (In concept it could be like a Peace Corps mission for seniors)
  • They will sacrifice again – if there is a reasonable chance they can have ownership in a portion of the project, and participate in the direction of their community growth.
  • Tens of millions of Youngish Seniors (ages 55-75) lost a great deal during the “Great Recession”.
  • Millions are finding it difficult to recover and are feeling vulnerable.
  • Hundreds of thousands are among the most educated, experienced, with the greatest skills of any other group in the world. They have done every type of work imaginable.
  • Tens of thousands are entrepreneurs and risk takers. They have and will generate work for others.
  • Thousands will sacrifice and do whatever-it-takes to be part of building a sustainable community that will offer a safe place to live, work, play, learn, and worship with their family and friends.
    • These are the Youngish Seniors who will be drawn to Burgeoning Communities.
    • They will consult on the needs, intensely act on what is agreed upon, reflect on the results, learn from mistakes, and produce a sustainable community that is also their home.

Richmond, Virginia, is offering soft loans to “urban pioneers” willing to buy, fix up and move into a vacant house in the city’s Jackson Ward area. Pioneers are eligible for up to $35,000, if they invest $70,000 of their own money. They are not required to make payments on the loan, and, if they live in the house for seven years, the entire loan is forgiven.
